# What are bingo slots and side games? Canonical HTML: [What are bingo slots and side games?](https://howtocasino.uk/guides/bingo-slots-and-side-games/) Published: 2026-10-30 Updated: 2026-10-30 Publisher: HowToCasino Language: en-GB Topic: Slingo ## The short answer “Bingo slots” can mean slot games offered on a bingo website, a slot with bingo-themed artwork, or a loosely described grid-and-reel game such as Slingo. A side game is an additional game offered alongside the main activity; its label does not say whether it costs extra. Check the actual rules, the price of each commitment and which balance pays for it. ![A fictional session separates 40p of bingo tickets from 60p of slot stakes, then subtracts a 25p total return from £1 spent to show a 75p loss.](https://howtocasino.uk/illustrations/bingo-and-side-game-costs.png) Fictional cash example: four 10p bingo tickets return £0; three separate 20p slot plays return 25p in total. Spending £1 and receiving 25p leaves a 75p loss. ## What does “bingo slots” actually mean? The phrase is not a single, standard set of game rules. A bingo website may also display conventional slots. A slot can use bingo balls, cards or a caller as its theme without becoming a called-number bingo game. Slingo adds another possibility: a family of games combining reels with a number grid. Likewise, a side game is a description of where an additional activity sits in the service. It does not establish that it is a slot, that it is free, that it shares the main game’s prize, or that it uses the same stake. Read the help for the actual title rather than treating the lobby label as a rulebook. The useful first question is what the payment buys. It may be an entry in a particular bingo game, a separate slot round, a grid-and-reel round with included plays, or an additional feature. Those commitments need their own cost and settlement explanation. Bingo artwork alone does not change that model. | Total stake for the cycle, paytable, features and any further paid commitment. | | Slingo | A grid-and-reel round matches numbers or uses special symbols, with prizes under the title’s rules. | Opening round cost, included plays, prize ladder and any separately priced continuation. | | Another side game | An additional product displayed alongside the main game. It may use a different mechanism. | Its actual rules, stake, balance and result; inclusion must be stated rather than assumed. | There is variety within each format. The Gambling Commission identifies equal chance, participation and a defined end point as fundamental bingo principles; the equal chance is attached to each ticket or chance. Buying different numbers of tickets does not mean each person necessarily has the same overall chance. Bingo is not limited to one universal 90-ball layout or to manual marking by a human player. Prize arrangements can also differ. Do not assume every game uses the same number of tickets, a shared prize pool or an identical full-house award. For the grid mechanics and special symbols, use the [Slingo beginner guide](https://howtocasino.uk/guides/how-to-play-slingo/index.md). For a conventional slot, the [online slots guide](https://howtocasino.uk/guides/how-to-play-online-slots/index.md) explains a paid cycle and paytable. This comparison focuses on identifying the activity and its separate cost. A game appearing inside the same screen is not evidence that its paid rounds are included in a bingo entry. The ticket and side-game stake may be separate charges even if they ultimately use the same cash balance. For example, tombola’s public game-in-game description separates confirmation of bingo tickets from an optional arcade panel with an adjustable stake. This is a checked description of that interface, not a recommendation to play two games at once or a promise that every account has the same layout. Before confirming a charge, identify the amount, what it covers and whether a later button creates another commitment. A result from one product does not refund the other product’s cost unless a specific rule or promotion provides that. The prices and returns are arithmetic examples, not an operator’s actual ticket price, minimum stake or offer. | Transaction | Cash change | Cash balance | | --- | --- | --- | | Start | — | £10.00 | | Buy four bingo tickets at 10p each | −£0.40 | £9.60 | | Make three separate slot plays at 20p each | −£0.60 | £9.00 | | Receive a 25p total slot return; bingo tickets return £0 | +£0.25 | £9.25 | Total spending is 40p + 60p = £1.00. Total money returned is 25p. The overall result is therefore 25p − £1.00 = a 75p loss. Looking only at the slot gives a 35p loss, but that leaves out the 40p bingo cost. An ending balance of £9.25 is not £9.25 of winnings. It includes the unspent part of the starting balance. If the slot return were £0 instead, the ending balance would be £9.00 and the total loss £1.00. If the total return were £1.50, the ending balance would be £10.50 and the net profit 50p. > **A win message does not add up all your spending** > > Check the actual stake and money returned across the activities you used. A positive award on one round can still leave a loss across the combined example. The Commission’s current RTS 8 covers gaming including bingo and requires the customer to commit to each game cycle individually. Automatic marking does not, by itself, describe a new stake. A specific advance ticket purchase is another separate situation. Tombola’s pre-buy guide describes choosing and confirming tickets for later games, with the purchase price and subsequent results recorded. Those confirmed games can take place without the person remaining logged in. That does not mean indefinite new purchases have been authorised, or that every site’s advance-purchase, cancellation or account-restriction rules are identical. Check the total selected cost, which games it enters, the confirmation and the actual purchase record. An unfamiliar charge should be investigated without placing another stake to reproduce it. The place where a balance appears, the games it can fund and the conditions for withdrawing any money are different questions. A shared login or lobby is insufficient evidence of shared eligibility. Sky Bingo’s help page, for example, distinguishes bonuses displayed in the main account area for games launched directly from the site from bonuses shown inside its bingo lobby. That is evidence of display locations, not a universal promise that a bonus can move between bingo, Slingo and slots. Read the actual promotion’s eligible games, stake restrictions, expiry and wagering conditions. Our [bonus-terms guide](https://howtocasino.uk/guides/how-to-read-casino-bonus-terms/index.md) explains how to distinguish cash, promotional credit and eligible winnings. A game’s RTP does not settle a bonus’s withdrawal conditions. The category name alone cannot answer that. You need the exact product, its stakes and prize model, the relevant return information and any additional paid features. A pooled or fixed bingo prize and a slot’s theoretical RTP are not interchangeable descriptions of a personal session. The Mecca Slingo Reel King public page illustrates why exact-version checks matter: its body and terms show different RTP figures. We do not choose one to present as a universal Slingo return. Use the actual offered game’s rules for its configuration and ask the operator to clarify a conflict. A larger advertised prize does not establish a higher chance of profit. Neither a comparison of formats nor an earlier loss produces a method that guarantees a win. Our [house-edge explanation](https://howtocasino.uk/guides/casino-games-odds-and-house-edge/index.md) separates long-run mathematical information from an individual result. A bingo brand name does not settle the scope of a licence. - Read the rules for each product, the total cost and the confirmation before treating anything as included. - Check whether cash or a game-specific bonus funded the transaction. - Keep the game name, time, purchase or round reference and the balance entries if a charge or return is unclear. - Ask the operator about an unexplained debit and use its complaint process if it remains unresolved; no further paid test is necessary. Our [licence-check guide](https://howtocasino.uk/guides/how-to-check-casino-licence/index.md) explains how to inspect a domain serving Great Britain. If your question is about a delayed payment rather than a game format, use the [withdrawal-delay guide](https://howtocasino.uk/guides/why-do-casino-withdrawals-take-time/index.md). It is not one standard set of rules. Identify the actual game and what each payment buys. Not necessarily. A side-game label does not establish the cost. A separately displayed stake can be an additional charge even when the game appears beside the bingo ticket or uses the same account. No. In the stated grid-and-reel examples, Slingo evaluates its own round under the title’s rules. A called-number bingo entry has its own game, ticket and winning conditions. Do not transfer one format’s costs or prizes to the other. Sources: - [Slingo Reel King: official Mecca game information](https://www.meccabingo.com/games/slingo-reel-king) — Mecca Bingo. Separately confirmed advance tickets have their own cost and purchase record. Check what the confirmation actually covered. Where a bonus is displayed does not, by itself, establish where it can be spent or withdrawn. In the fictional example here, 40p of bingo tickets plus 60p of slot stakes costs £1; a 25p total return leaves a 75p overall loss. ## Sources and checks - [How bingo is defined](https://www.gamblingcommission.gov.uk/licensees-and-businesses/guide/how-bingo-is-defined) — Gambling Commission.
