## The short answer

A casino loyalty scheme awards points or benefits under its own earning and redemption rules. A VIP or invitation-only programme can involve different eligibility and personalised treatment; points do not automatically create that status. Check what earns points, what each point converts into, expiry, restrictions and the distinction between account credit and money received. GB high-value customer rules add safeguards where their scope applies. A reward does not remove the risk of loss, and increasing spending to obtain status is not a reliable way to gain value.

![An invented scheme awards one point per ten pounds of eligible stakes. Two hundred and fifty pounds staked earns twenty-five points worth twenty-five pence in unrestricted cash; a fifty-pound game loss becomes a forty-nine-pound-seventy-five-pence loss.](https://howtocasino.uk/illustrations/casino-loyalty-reward-and-net-result.png)

Invented scheme and completed cash result: 1 point per £10 eligible stakes; 1 point converts to 1p unrestricted cash. £250 stakes, £200 gross game returns and 25p reward give net −£49.75. Not actual Joy Points, V*Points or a prediction.

## What is the difference between points, tiers and VIP status?

| Item | Meaning to establish |
| --- | --- |
| Reward points | A quantity earned under specified rules, with its own conversion and expiry |
| Cash or bonus conversion | What is credited after redemption, and which conditions remain |
| Tier or status level | A category whose benefits and review rules may differ from point balances |
| Invitation-only membership | Selection by the operator, not necessarily a published target or application |
| High-value customer scheme | A regulatory scope question involving enhanced or personalised treatment linked to commercial value |

A customer can have points without qualifying for personalised treatment. A public VIP label is also not a complete description of the programme. Identify what the operator actually offers and how eligibility is assessed before comparing labels.

The Commission says there is no universal definition of a high-value customer. Its guidance describes enhanced or personalised benefits linked to high commercial spend or frequency, while excluding the stated ad hoc, non-personalised promotions for large numbers of people. Do not assume every ordinary loyalty scheme is automatically an HVC programme, or automatically outside the guidance.

This article explains the mechanisms and safeguards. It does not rank the best VIP casinos, promise an invitation or provide a spending plan for obtaining one.

## What activity actually earns points?

Read the earning base before the rate. A rule can refer to eligible stakes, an amount won, a specified activity or another defined measure. Those bases are not interchangeable. Total stakes include money staked again; an amount described as won may need further explanation about returned stakes, net gains and rounding.

Current published help gives a useful counterexample to the assumption that every scheme rewards turnover. Jackpotjoy’s Joy Points help and Virgin Games’ V*Points help say most eligible non-bingo games earn one point for each £20 won, with Craps excluded. These are related-company descriptions, not independent tests of two unrelated systems.

Those help pages were consulted on 30 October 2026. Their short descriptions do not fully establish every gross-versus-net interpretation, rounding step or game exclusion. We therefore do not apply that wording to an invented gambling record as though its complete calculation had been verified.

Record the qualifying games, earning base, rate, rounding, excluded funds and any cap. A scheme based on winnings cannot be calculated simply by multiplying deposits by a points rate. Likewise, a deposit size is not a substitute for total eligible stakes.

The [account explainer](https://howtocasino.uk/guides/what-is-an-online-casino/index.md) separates deposits, stakes, gross returns and net results. The same distinction prevents a loyalty comparison from overstating the benefit.

## How much are points worth, and when can they expire?

A point count is not a pound amount until the conversion rule is known. Check whether redemption produces account cash, restricted bonus credit, free spins, a voucher or another benefit. A cash-equivalent estimate for a gift is not a guarantee of receiving that amount in money.

| Dated public-help example | What the help states | Limit of the observation |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Jackpotjoy Joy Points | One point is worth 1p; conversion can start at one point and credits the account on that website | Not a tested bank withdrawal or a complete current-terms review |
| Virgin Games V*Points | One point is worth 1p; conversion starts at one point; points cannot be transferred between accounts | Not airline or retail Virgin currency, or proof of identical benefits elsewhere |
| Expiry in those two help pages | Accumulated points expire if no new point is earned within 90 days | Not a universal casino expiry period or evidence that merely logging in resets it |

The full current general terms were not accessible in this review. We can attribute what the public help says, but cannot promise immediate bank receipt, absence of further conditions or individual eligibility. Conversion to an account balance and withdrawal from that account remain different events.

If a reward is bonus credit, establish any actual wagering, eligible games, expiry and withdrawal conditions. Do not assume every loyalty reward has wagering, or treat the headline point value as immediately withdrawable cash. The [bonus-terms guide](https://howtocasino.uk/guides/how-to-read-casino-bonus-terms/index.md) covers those separate conditions.

An expiry rule is information to understand, not a reason to place more bets to preserve a small balance. Assess the benefit on its own terms without increasing exposure to chase it.

## Can a reward turn a losing period into a profit?

Use an explicitly invented scheme: every £10 of eligible stakes earns one point, and each point converts to 1p of unrestricted cash. Assume the recorded £250 stakes all qualify and there is no rounding loss, cap, expiry, fee or further condition. This is not the earning rule of the real programmes above.

| Invented completed record | Amount |
| --- | --- |
| Eligible total stakes | £250 |
| Gross game returns, including returned stakes | £200 |
| Game-only result | −£50 |
| Points: £250 ÷ £10 | 25 |
| Cash reward: 25 × £0.01 | £0.25 |
| Combined cash result: £200 − £250 + £0.25 | −£49.75 |

The reward reduces the loss by 25p. It does not make this record profitable. If the game returns had instead been £270 under the same invented earning rule, the combined result would be a £20.25 gain. The reward is still 25p; it does not explain or guarantee the game result.

If the benefit were restricted bonus credit rather than unrestricted cash, adding its face value to this cash-result table would not be justified. A threshold can also leave points unredeemed. Calculate what is actually earned, converted and usable rather than treating a possible future benefit as money already received.

Our [cashback guide](https://howtocasino.uk/guides/what-is-casino-cashback/index.md) explains a different reward calculation, based on its defined losses or stakes. Loyalty points, cashback and a tournament award should not be silently treated as one mechanism.

## What changes when a programme offers personalised VIP treatment?

Jackpotjoy and Virgin Games describe their Plus schemes as invitation-only, following ongoing account review. Their help does not publish an exact qualification target and says membership cannot be applied for. An existing customer, a large deposit or an email subscription is therefore not a verified route to an invitation.

The public help also describes email-marketing conditions for invitations and communications. That is a statement about the named scheme’s published process, not advice to opt into advertising or a complete ruling on the programme’s terms. Your marketing choices remain a separate question; our [communications guide](https://howtocasino.uk/guides/how-to-stop-casino-texts-and-emails/index.md) explains opt-out routes.

For HVC arrangements within scope, the Commission’s guidance expects checks concerning sustainable spending, safer-gambling risk and enhanced due diligence before incentives are offered. It expects continuing risk review and, absent a change, review at least quarterly. Welfare must take priority over commercial pressure; benefits should not encourage chasing, excessive activity or unsustainable tier retention.

Keep the source and strength of each rule clear. The BGC Code Handbook 2025 includes an industry-code requirement for personal management licence-holder approval and additional controls for HVC programme entry by someone under 25. That is not a blanket statutory ban on every under-25 loyalty member. The minimum age for ordinary GB casino gambling is a separate rule: 18.

The current LCCP rewards condition requires clear, fair, accessible incentive terms and contains HVC duties in clauses 4–5. Where bonus funds carry wagering requirements, the current ceiling is ten times the bonus funds. The exact earning, redemption and product conditions still need the actual programme terms; a short points-help page does not classify the entire scheme.

## What should you compare, and how can you leave?

- Use the same earning base and period when comparing rates.
- Identify actual cash, restricted credit and non-cash benefits separately.
- Record expiry, redemption minimums, exclusions and any published review process.
- Keep normal customer service and payment rights separate from membership perks.
- Do not fill undisclosed invitation criteria with an invented deposit or loss target.

A meaningful comparison includes the cost and risk of the qualifying activity. The best-looking benefit is not necessarily valuable for a person who would otherwise avoid that gambling. An invitation or a personal contact does not establish better game odds or guaranteed withdrawals.

The HVC guidance expects requests to leave the scheme to be honoured promptly and personalised incentives to stop. Leaving a rewards programme, changing marketing preferences, closing an account and self-excluding are separate actions. Ask the verified operator which action has been recorded; use independent support if the aim is to stop gambling.

Gambling results and regular income are also different questions. The [income explainer](https://howtocasino.uk/guides/can-you-make-money-consistently-from-casino-games/index.md) shows how a winning block can coexist with a negative expectation, without treating a points award as a dependable return.

## Related questions

### Does every loyalty scheme award points on stakes?

No. The earning base must be read. The named public help examples above describe amounts won for most eligible non-bingo games; an invented stakes-based example should not be substituted for those rules.

### Are casino points always withdrawable cash?

No. Establish the conversion product and its conditions. A credit to a gambling account is also separate from bank receipt. This review did not establish a universally unrestricted withdrawal right for the named schemes.

### Can I guarantee VIP status by depositing more?

No qualification guarantee is established here. The named Plus help describes invitations and undisclosed criteria. Do not invent a spending target or increase gambling to chase an invitation.

### Are all loyalty customers high-value customers?

Not automatically. The scope of the Commission’s guidance depends on the actual enhanced or personalised treatment and scheme, not simply the presence of points or a VIP label.

### Is the gambling age 25 for VIP customers?

There is no universal age 25 casino rule established here. Ordinary GB casino gambling is 18+. The cited BGC industry code has a specific under 25 HVC approval-and-controls process, distinct from a blanket statutory membership ban.

### Can I stop marketing without confusing that with self-exclusion?

Changing marketing preferences, leaving a reward scheme and formal self-exclusion serve different purposes. Use the operator’s verified process for the action you want, and ask it to confirm the recorded scope.
