Which Big Bamboo does this explain?
This is Push Gaming’s original Big Bamboo, the game with 50 paylines. Big Bamboo 2 is a separate release. Use the complete title in the information panel when checking a result; a sequel, another bamboo-themed game or a similarly named feature does not establish this game’s rules.
The Mystery symbol and Golden Bamboo feature do different jobs. Mystery Bamboo first reveals what occupies a position. A regular paying symbol or Wild can contribute to an ordinary line result; Golden Bamboo instead starts the separate prize sequence explained below.
A symbol appearing on the grid does not necessarily complete a paying line. Our payline explanation separates a symbol count from a qualifying combination.
From a Mystery reveal to a Golden Bamboo result
| Stage | What changes | What to avoid assuming |
|---|---|---|
| Mystery Bamboo appears | At the end of a spin, the symbol reveals a paying symbol, Wild or Golden Bamboo. | The unopened bamboo is not itself a fixed cash amount. |
| A paying symbol or Wild is revealed | The ordinary line rules determine any resulting award. | The picture alone guarantees a win. |
| Golden Bamboo is revealed | Its positions cycle through the special feature’s symbols. The supplier describes a one-respin feature. | Every Golden position pays an immediate cash prize. |
| Multiplier or Collector effects occur | Values can change or move, and emptied positions can reveal further symbols. | “One respin” means every position settles after one visible change. |
| The feature settles | Add the surviving Instant Prize and Collector values, then convert using the total bet. | Every number displayed during the animation is a separate final payment. |
The detailed Virgin rules explain why the sequence can involve more reveals: a Multiplier leaves after acting, while collected Instant Prizes are removed. Those vacant positions then cycle through potential prizes. The short “one respin” supplier summary should not be read as a complete description of every intermediate display.
What do the Golden Bamboo symbols actually do?
| Symbol | Published effect | Money-reading consequence |
|---|---|---|
| Instant Prize | Stores a value expressed as a multiple of the total bet. | An initial 5× prize at a 20p total bet represents £1 before any additional applicable effect. |
| Multiplier | Multiplies the Instant Prize and Collector values currently on the reels, then leaves. | The factor changes those values; it is not another standalone cash prize. |
| Collector | Accumulates the other Instant Prize and Collector values. Instant Prizes it collects are removed; the Collector stays. | Do not retain the removed prizes as separate payable amounts. |
| Scatter / Gamble Scatter | Participates in the relevant free-spin or award process. | A free-spin count or feature opportunity is different from an Instant Prize cash value. |
The public rules say Multipliers affect both Instant Prizes and Collectors on the reels. This is not the local-neighbour effect found in some other slots. Apply the effect described by Big Bamboo’s own rules rather than borrowing another game’s multiplier calculation.
The same rules allow a Collector to include other Collectors. They do not provide enough detail here to reconstruct every possible simultaneous multiple-Collector result. The example below deliberately uses one Collector and one later Multiplier, with their order stated.
A Collector example: £3.20, not £6
Assume a base-game Golden Bamboo sequence at a 20p total bet, with three feature positions and no free-spin conversion multiplier, payout cap or rounding adjustment affecting this example. The invented initial Instant Prize values are 2× and 5× the total bet. A Collector in the third position gathers them.
| Illustrative step | Values that remain relevant | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Two Instant Prizes and one Collector | Collector stores 2 + 5 = 7×. | The two Instant Prize symbols are removed after collection. |
| An emptied position reveals a 1× Instant Prize | Collector 7× plus new Instant Prize 1×. | The new 1× is a fresh value; the old 2× and 5× are no longer separate prizes. |
| The other emptied position reveals a 2× Multiplier | Collector becomes 14×; the 1× prize becomes 2×. | The Multiplier acts on both values, then leaves. |
| Assume the vacant position settles as a Scatter | Surviving money values total 14 + 2 = 16×. | This illustration assigns that Scatter no Instant Prize value. Any relevant feature award must be read separately. |
| Convert this Golden Bamboo money component | 16 × £0.20 = £3.20. | Use the total bet once. |
The incorrect calculation would keep the original 2× and 5× prizes alongside the 7× Collector that already contains them: (2 + 5 + 7 + 1) × 2 × £0.20 = £6. That counts the collected values twice. The correct current-value calculation is (7 + 1) × 2 × £0.20 = £3.20.
This £3.20 is only the illustrated Golden Bamboo money component. It is not a reported game round, a full bonus return or a session profit. An ordinary line win or a separate feature award would need its own record; do not add one to a settled total that already includes it.
Check the unit before doing the conversion. If a history entry already shows £3.20 as the final cash amount, multiplying it by 20p again is wrong. Our guide to slot credits and coins explains why a stake multiple and a cash amount need different treatment.
How are free-spin conversions different from Multiplier symbols?
Free spins have a separate progression. The detailed GB descriptions collect Scatters towards conversions of low-paying symbols into Mystery Bamboo. A conversion also awards extra spins and unlocks a factor for Golden Bamboo’s Instant Prize and Collector values.
| Conversions reached | Scatter collections from an unconverted start | Extra spins at that step | Golden Bamboo factor unlocked |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 4 | 4 | 2× |
| 2 | 8 in total | 3 | 3× |
| 3 | 12 in total | 3 | 5× |
| 4 | 16 in total | 2 | 10× |
These are progression levels, not four factors to multiply together. At the second level, the table identifies the 3× factor; it does not describe 2 × 3 = 6× simply because the earlier level was passed. Likewise, the extra-spin awards add to 4 + 3 + 3 + 2 = 12 across all four steps, rather than multiplying into a cash prize.
The collection totals above assume the feature starts with no symbols already converted. Some published free-spin awards pre-convert two or four low symbols. Do not assume every feature therefore needs sixteen new Scatters after entry to reach its final state.
Keep the active conversion factor separate from a Multiplier symbol appearing inside Golden Bamboo. The first describes the free-spin progression; the second acts on values present in a particular prize sequence. Before applying either in a calculation, establish whether the displayed amounts already include it. The base-game example above avoids this additional factor entirely.
The detailed wording attaches the conversion factor to Golden Bamboo’s Instant Prize and Collector values. It does not authorise applying that factor to every ordinary payline win or retrospectively repricing results that have already settled.
Are a Gamble Scatter and free spins the same as a cash prize?
No. The published award process can show a free-spin allocation, sometimes with low symbols already converted. Virgin’s detailed description also includes a blank outcome. Read what the last award symbol actually credits rather than turning a short “Scatters trigger free spins” summary into a promise about every outcome.
When the optional Gamble Wheel is offered, keeping an awarded feature and staking that feature for a possible upgrade are different choices. The detailed description includes a no-prize outcome if a gamble fails. This is not a guaranteed improvement or a reliable method of recovering earlier losses.
A game’s natural feature and a paid feature menu are also different things. Global supplier pages can show controls that do not establish what a GB account offers. Our bonus-buy explanation covers that market distinction.
What should you check if the amount looks wrong?
- Confirm the original Big Bamboo title and the rules supplied with the exact game, rather than a Big Bamboo 2 or other slot’s example.
- Record the total bet and whether the sequence was in the base game or free spins. In free spins, record the conversion level already active.
- Separate the ordinary line result from the Golden Bamboo money component and any extra-spin award.
- Follow each Collector: which values did it include, which Instant Prizes disappeared and which Collector values remained?
- Follow each Multiplier in its actual order, then identify the surviving money values at settlement. A stored intermediate total is not automatically an extra credit.
- Keep the round ID, time, relevant rules and settled history when asking the operator to explain a discrepancy.
Our wrong-payout guide explains how to raise a query about a specific amount and keep a clear transaction record. The operator needs the recorded round and the step you dispute, rather than a total reconstructed by adding every animation number.
Check the loaded rules for configuration and limits
Push Gaming says RTP can vary between casinos and directs players to the game information. Its original page labels a figure as the highest observed win; that wording is not proof of the cap, return setting or available controls in your account. A theoretical percentage also does not predict what this particular Golden Bamboo sequence will pay.
This explanation was checked against the supplier’s exact original-game page and public GB operator rules on 5 November 2026. We did not open an account or play a round. A public listing does not guarantee current availability or an identical installed configuration for every player.
Related questions
Does every Mystery Bamboo symbol pay money?
No. It reveals a paying symbol, Wild or Golden Bamboo. A regular symbol still needs to qualify under the line rules; Golden Bamboo starts a separate feature rather than assigning every position an immediate cash prize.
Why do Instant Prize symbols disappear after a Collector?
Virgin’s detailed rules say the Collector accumulates their values and removes the Instant Prizes. The Collector remains. Keeping the removed prizes as separate values alongside that Collector would count the same amounts twice.
Does Big Bamboo’s Multiplier affect Collectors too?
Yes. The detailed GB rule applies the Multiplier symbol to both Instant Prize and Collector values currently on the reels, after which the Multiplier leaves. Read the actual order and units before calculating the settled amount.
Does a 10× conversion level multiply every Big Bamboo win?
The published conversion description applies to Golden Bamboo’s Instant Prize and Collector values. It is not a blanket instruction to multiply every payline win, and an amount already showing the applied factor should not be multiplied again.
