Which Rainbow Riches rules does this guide explain?

This guide explains the original online game documented in Scientific Games’ Rainbow Riches Mobile Product Sheet, bearing a 2015 copyright and game ID rainbowriches. It has the familiar Road to Riches, Wishing Well and Pots of Gold features. That sheet establishes the documented model’s rules; it does not establish the software or return percentage currently selected by a particular GB account.

The original model supports one to twenty active paylines. Virgin Games’ current GB overview describes its game as fixed at twenty. Treat the displayed active-line count as part of your version check, rather than assuming every interface offers a line selector.

Light & Wonder also lists a newer Rainbow Riches (GDM), released for the UK on 16 July 2025 with game IDs beginning at 71504. Its description introduces Road, Super Road and Mega Road variations according to the trigger count. Those changes are outside this original-game explanation, even though the title and three familiar feature names look similar.

Slingo Rainbow Riches uses the Slingo format. Pick ’n’ Mix, Free Spins, Megaways and Dream Pots are also separate editions. If your help panel describes their mechanics, use those instructions. Our Slingo explanation shows why a shared name does not imply the same winning system.

How do you start a normal spin?

  1. Open the information or help panel and match the full game title, reel layout and feature names.
  2. Read the active-line count and the total cash stake for one paid spin. If lines are adjustable, confirm which ones are active.
  3. Check whether the paytable shows cash values at your chosen setting or multipliers of the stake per line.
  4. Choose a stake within a spending limit you can afford to lose, then press Spin once.
  5. Let the base result and any awarded feature settle before deciding whether to start another paid game.

Increasing the line stake increases the cost of every spin at the same line count. Activating more lines at the same line stake also increases the total. A stake or line change does not make a bonus due. Read the total before confirming a change; a coin or line value on its own can understate what you are committing.

Our guide to reading game rules explains how to check stake units and paytable displays before applying a worked example.

How do paylines and wilds pay?

Ordinary line combinations must occupy consecutive reels starting at the far left, along an active payline. Matching pictures in unrelated positions are not enough. The paytable gives each qualifying symbol and combination length; do not assume every symbol pays from the same count.

The Wild can stand in for ordinary symbols, but cannot replace Road to Riches, Wishing Well or Pots of Gold scatters. The original rules pay the highest winner for a winning combination and add awards from different winning lines. A longer combination does not also pay every shorter version of that same combination.

Setting or eventHypothetical calculationResult
20 active lines at 2p per line20 × £0.0240p total stake
A qualifying award shown as 50× line stake50 × £0.02£1 line award
A second line awards 10× line stake10 × £0.0220p additional award
Both awards on that paid spin, with nothing else£1 + £0.20 − £0.4080p net profit

The 50× and 10× multipliers above are teaching examples, not a claim about a particular symbol. If a current paytable has already converted its award to £1, multiplying that cash value by the line stake again would be another error. Our payline guide explains the difference between a drawn line and scattered feature symbols.

Which symbols trigger the three features?

FeatureOriginal triggerWhat happens next
Road to RichesThree or more Road to Riches scatters in viewA wheel moves you along a prize trail until Collect or the top.
Wishing WellThree or more Wishing Well scatters in viewChoose one of three wells to reveal its award.
Pots of GoldThree Pots of Gold scatters in viewSpinning pots stop and an arrow identifies the awarded pot.

These are three different scatter symbols. One Road to Riches, one Wishing Well and one Pot of Gold do not form a three-symbol trigger together. They do not have to lie on a payline, but the original Pots of Gold symbol can appear only on reels two, three and four.

The triggering spin fixes the feature’s bet and active-line settings in the original rules. Feature awards are expressed as multiples of the total stake. A feature wheel press or well choice does not mean you have bought another normal spin.

How does Road to Riches end, and can it pay nothing?

After the Road to Riches trigger, the feature wheel can show one, two, three, four, five, six or Collect. A number advances the marker that many positions along the cash path. Continue the feature until Collect appears or the top prize is reached; the final highlighted position determines the award.

The first wheel result can be Collect, in which case this feature pays nothing. After progress has been made, Collect ends the trail at the position reached. The feature does not add every passed prize together. For example, ending on a displayed 40× position at a 50p total stake awards £20; it does not award £20 plus the values of all earlier positions.

The original supplier sheet gives a maximum Road to Riches feature award of 500 times the total stake. That is an upper feature value, not a promise, a bonus frequency or a statement that every triggered trail pays something.

What do you choose in Wishing Well and Pots of Gold?

Wishing Well presents three wells. Select one; its revealed multiplier is applied to the total stake. You receive that well’s award, rather than the sum of all three. The original supplier sheet gives a maximum feature award of 500 times the total stake.

Pots of Gold uses a different presentation: bronze, silver and gold pots rotate, then the arrow points to the awarded pot. Its value is multiplied by the total stake, with a 500× feature maximum in the original sheet. The documented procedure gives no tracking or pot-selection strategy.

The original three-feature model documented here has no in-game free-spins round. A casino promotion called free spins is a separate account offer, and Rainbow Riches Free Spins is a different game. Read promotional conditions separately from the slot’s own rules.

Why does a feature multiplier use a different amount from a line multiplier?

Assume twenty active lines and a 50p total stake, giving a 2.5p stake per line. The following invented results isolate the calculation base. They are alternative outcomes, not three prizes won together, and they assume no other award on the triggering spin.

Alternative eventCalculationReturnNet result after the 50p triggering stake
Ordinary line: illustrative 40× line stake40 × £0.025£150p profit
Feature: illustrative 40× total stake40 × £0.50£20£19.50 profit
Road feature: Collect on its first wheel resultNo feature award£050p loss

The displayed multiple can be the same while the cash award differs twentyfold. This is why “40×” without its stake base is incomplete information. The original feature cap of 500× would equal £250 at this hypothetical 50p total stake; this calculation does not establish a whole-game cash cap or current operator configuration.

Earlier paid spins still count towards your session cost. If forty 50p spins cost £20 altogether and the complete session return is £12, your net loss is £8. A last-spin feature return cannot be called session profit without including the earlier stakes.

Is the original Rainbow Riches RTP always 95%?

The original product sheet bearing a 2015 copyright states 95.00% RTP. That is an attributed figure for the documented model, not verification of the current version offered to you. The newer GDM catalogue lists several builds, showing why the short game name is insufficient to identify a configuration. Check the return information in the opened game.

RTP is a theoretical long-run relationship between total stakes and returns. It does not mean that £100 deposited must produce £95 of withdrawals, nor that a feature must arrive after a stated number of spins. Our RTP guide explains the distinction between a theoretical percentage and a session result.

Which Great Britain controls override older instructions?

For GB online slots, the maximum total stake per game cycle is £2 for adults aged 18–24 and £5 for adults aged 25 and over. The game, operator or account may set a lower limit. An old sheet’s much larger maximum is not a current GB staking instruction.

Current rules require an individual commitment to each game cycle, so autoplay is unavailable. Slots need at least 2.5 seconds before the next cycle can start. Turbo, quick-spin and slam-stop functionality that shortens the time to the result is prohibited; the technical standard has an exception for unpaid bonus or feature games.

Paying to buy direct entry to a slot feature is not an option to expect on a GB-licensed service: the Commission records instructions to remove games with that functionality. That action is separate from choosing a well during an already triggered feature. Our bonus-buy explanation sets out the distinction.

Related questions

How many paylines does original Rainbow Riches have?

The original documented model supports one to twenty active lines. Some GB interfaces, including Virgin’s current overview, describe twenty fixed lines. Check the active count in your game before dividing the total stake.

Do all three bonus symbols count together?

No. Road to Riches, Wishing Well and Pots of Gold have separate matching-symbol triggers. One of each does not make a three-symbol feature trigger.

Can Road to Riches award zero?

Yes. The original rules say that Collect on the first feature-wheel spin produces no feature win. Other awards on the triggering spin, if any, must be considered separately.

Can you choose the gold pot in original Rainbow Riches?

The original supplier rules describe rotating pots followed by an arrow identifying the awarded pot. Some operator overview wording differs, so check the actual game’s help. No pot-tracking strategy is established here.

Does original Rainbow Riches have free spins?

The original documented model has Road to Riches, Wishing Well and Pots of Gold rather than an in-game free-spins round. Promotional free spins and the separate Rainbow Riches Free Spins title have different rules.

Is a 40× feature win at 50p worth £20?

Yes, if 40× is a multiplier of the 50p total stake: 40 × £0.50 = £20. A 40× ordinary line award uses the stake on that line instead. The example is hypothetical.
