How does a spin work?
This guide explains the original Pragmatic Play 5 Lions Megaways. The original has six reels with up to seven symbols on each, giving a maximum of 117,649 possible ways. The number displayed for a spin depends on the reel heights. These are ways to win, rather than a fixed set of drawn paylines.
- Check the full game name and open its information screen. Read the cash amount for the complete spin, any enabled Ante Bet and the paytable’s unit of calculation.
- Choose the displayed stake and start one paid spin. Regular symbols must form the qualifying left-to-right combination beginning on the first reel; the paytable gives the required matches and award.
- If the result wins, watch the winning symbols disappear and replacements fall into the same reel layout. Further qualifying combinations are counted within that spin.
- Check whether at least three Bonus symbols have triggered free spins. Once the spin and any resulting feature finish, compare the complete return with the amount charged.
A way can use any qualifying position on each adjacent reel; it does not need to follow a drawn zigzag line. For example, suppose the same paying symbol appears twice on reel one, three times on reel two and once on reel three, with no matching continuation. That supplies 2 × 3 × 1 = 6 three-reel combinations for that symbol. The example assumes its three-symbol combination pays under the exact paytable.
The 117,649 figure describes the maximum reel arrangement, not 117,649 guaranteed wins or your chance of profiting. Different symbols and connection lengths have their own awards. Read whether those awards are expressed in coins, base-bet units or cash before multiplying them by the displayed total stake.
Which wins receive a Wild multiplier?
The Gold Lion Wild substitutes for regular symbols, but not the Bonus symbol. The published original rules place Wilds on reels two to five. A Wild must take part in a paying combination for the Wild-multiplier rule to apply; merely appearing somewhere on the screen does not multiply every award.
During the base game and its tumbles, a randomly selected value applies to the winning combinations that use a Wild. The Slots UK rules and the original supplier-rule copy include 1× among the possible values, through to 40×. MONOPOLY Casino’s public summary lists 2× to 40× and omits 1×. The help in the version you open is the place to resolve that difference; do not assume every qualifying Wild must increase a win.
Winning symbols are removed and replacement symbols fall into the vacated spaces. The process continues while another qualifying win appears. The published rules say the combined tumble returns are added to the balance when that paid-spin sequence finishes. A continuation created by a tumble is not another stake deduction.
Here is an invented cash example, not a symbol payout copied from the game. Suppose a combination using a Wild is worth 12p before its selected 3× multiplier. It returns 36p. A separate 8p combination without a Wild stays at 8p. If the next tumble returns another 6p without a Wild, the complete paid-spin return is 50p.
| Stage | Assumed cash award | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Win using a Wild | £0.12 × 3 | £0.36 |
| Separate win without a Wild | £0.08 | £0.08 |
| Later tumble without a Wild | £0.06 | £0.06 |
| Complete paid-spin return | £0.36 + £0.08 + £0.06 | £0.50 |
| Net result after a 20p spin | £0.50 returned − £0.20 charged | £0.30 gain |
This example assumes no other charge, award or stake refund. Multiplying the whole 50p by three again would count the Wild enhancement twice and apply it to unrelated wins.
How do you trigger free spins, and what are the choices?
Three or more Yin and Yang Bonus symbols trigger the original game’s free-spin round. These symbols can appear on any reel and do not disappear during tumbles. The named GB descriptions give a separate trigger award of 3× the total bet for three, 5× for four, 25× for five and 100× for six Bonus symbols.
Before the free-spin round begins, the original rules offer six fixed pairings and a Mystery choice. The numbers below are the published original-game options, not the different selection screen in 5 Lions Megaways 2.
| Choice | Opening free spins | Possible Wild multipliers |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 25 | 2×, 3× or 5× |
| 2 | 20 | 3×, 5× or 8× |
| 3 | 15 | 5×, 8× or 10× |
| 4 | 13 | 8×, 10× or 15× |
| 5 | 10 | 10×, 15× or 30× |
| 6 | 6 | 15×, 30× or 40× |
| Mystery | Selected from the other spin-count options | Selected from the other multiplier-range options |
A free-spin multiplier still needs a winning combination that uses a Wild. Selecting the six-spin option does not award six lots of 40×, and the 25-spin option does not promise a minimum cash return. Special reels apply during the feature, so a base-game result is not a complete model of the bonus.
If at least three Bonus symbols appear during free spins, the published rules add the same number of free spins as the option selected. A 15-spin selection therefore adds 15 on that retrigger. That does not mean every feature will retrigger.
There is no reliable “best lion” calculation from the spin counts and multiplier ranges alone. The frequency and size of paying combinations, the distribution of multiplier values, special reels and retriggers all matter. The public documents checked here do not establish that one choice has a higher theoretical return than the others. We therefore do not rank them as winning strategies.
How do you calculate the complete round result?
Keep the amount paid and all returns in the same cash calculation. A feature award is part of the return from the initiating spin; it is not an additional deposit. In the invented example below, a normal 20p paid spin lands three Bonus symbols and the free-spin round later returns £4.40. The trigger award is 3 × 20p = 60p.
| Item | Hypothetical amount | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| Normal spin charged | £0.20 | The complete initiating stake; Ante Bet is off. |
| Three-Bonus trigger award | £0.60 | 3× the 20p total bet. |
| Free-spin awards | £4.40 | Assumed additional feature return. |
| Complete cycle returned | £5.00 | 60p trigger award + £4.40 feature awards. |
| Net result | £4.80 gain | £5 returned − 20p charged. |
The £4.40 feature figure is invented, and the example predicts neither the feature’s value nor how often it will happen. It assumes no other win or charge and no separate refund of the initiating stake. If the game history already reports the complete £5 cycle return, adding the 60p trigger award to it again would overstate the result.
For a normal spin that returns nothing and triggers no feature, a 20p charge leaves a 20p loss. Several tumble wins can still leave a loss when their complete return is below the amount charged. The useful figure is total returned minus total paid, rather than the number of winning animations.
What does Ante Bet change?
The published original rules describe normal play with a 20× bet multiplier and an Ante Bet option using 25×. With the same underlying unit, changing from 20 to 25 makes the paid stake 25% higher. The rules say more Bonus symbols are present and the chance of triggering free spins naturally doubles; they also say the symbol paytable remains on its normal-play basis.
For illustration, an underlying 1p unit would produce a 20p normal spin or a 25p Ante spin. One hundred such paid spins would cost £20 or £25 before any returns. These are accounting examples, not suggested spending amounts or proof that those stakes are available on your account.
A higher chance of a particular feature does not establish better overall value or a guaranteed bonus. The cash amount charged, which bet basis a paytable award uses, and the version’s stated return need checking together. Do not automatically increase every symbol award by 25% merely because the spin costs 25% more.
The original published documents also describe a 5,000× win limit and termination of remaining feature play when the relevant cap is reached. Read the exact cap and calculation base in your game before treating an advertised maximum as a cash figure. A maximum states a limit; it does not tell you how likely that result is.
International material may show a Buy Free Spins button, automatic spins or faster-play controls. Those descriptions do not establish that the same controls are available or permitted in a GB installation. This guide does not give instructions for using them.
Which version and RTP should you check?
MrQ and Slots UK publicly state 94.50% RTP for their named 5 Lions Megaways pages checked on 4 November 2026. The foreign operator-hosted original supplier-rule copy instead states 96.50%. These observations identify what those documents say; they do not establish which configuration is currently installed in an individual account. We do not assign one universal percentage to every GB casino.
RTP is a theoretical long-run measure of returns against stakes. It is not the proportion of spins that win, a promise about your session, or evidence that a recent loss makes a win due. For the game you actually open, read the RTP and relevant bet-option information in its own help.
| Name or screen detail | What it tells you | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| 5 Lions Megaways | The original game covered here. | Match the seven-option screen and its precise rules. |
| 5 Lions Megaways 2 | A separate sequel with different features and multiplier ranges. | Use that game’s help; do not borrow the original table. |
| A different 5 Lions title | Shared artwork or a similar name does not establish Megaways rules. | Check the full title and supplier. |
| A demo or international rule copy | Useful for understanding a stated model, with different controls or settings possible. | Do not infer GB real-money availability, stake limits or installed RTP. |
Pragmatic Play’s sequel page describes Super Scatters and Level Up coins. Those features are not part of the original rules explained in this article. Confirming the name before following a guide avoids a plausible-looking but incorrect free-spin or multiplier table.
This explanation uses the supplier’s original-game announcement, current public GB operator descriptions and a clearly scoped international supplier-rule copy. We checked the documents and recalculated the examples; we did not open a funded account, play the game or test a withdrawal. This page contains no playable demo.
What should you keep if a result looks wrong?
- The full game name, operator domain and round reference from the game history.
- The total cash charged, whether Ante Bet was enabled and the help page’s award unit.
- The qualifying combination, whether a Wild was part of it and the multiplier actually selected.
- Any trigger award, chosen free-spin option, retrigger and complete cycle return; avoid adding an already included award twice.
Send the round reference and the relevant rule screenshot to the operator if the figures still do not reconcile. The records from your played round are more useful than a headline RTP or a result from another game version.
Related questions
Does a Wild multiply every win on the screen?
The original rules apply the selected multiplier to winning combinations using a Wild. A separate combination without a Wild does not receive it merely because both wins appear during the same spin.
Which 5 Lions Megaways free-spin option is best?
The published choices trade more opening spins for different possible Wild multipliers. Those figures alone do not establish the highest expected return: Wild frequency, award sizes, multiplier probabilities and retriggers also matter. This guide does not recommend an option as a winning strategy.
Do tumble wins cost another stake?
Tumbles are continuations from the initiating paid spin. Winning symbols disappear and replacements can create more wins before the sequence finishes; those tumbles do not require another paid-spin stake.
Is the RTP always 96.50%?
No universal value is established by the public material checked here. MrQ and Slots UK list 94.50%, while the foreign supplier-rule copy lists 96.50%. Check the information for the exact version you open rather than applying a headline percentage to every casino.
Is 5 Lions Megaways 2 covered by the same table?
No. Pragmatic Play identifies it as a sequel with different features, including Super Scatters and Level Up coins. The original game’s seven-choice table is not a substitute for the sequel’s help.
