Which Lightning Baccarat game does this guide explain?

This guide covers Evolution’s original Lightning Baccarat. The supplier describes a live baccarat game with one to five randomly selected Lightning Cards each round and multipliers of 2×, 3×, 4×, 5× or 8×. Its separate First Person title uses an animated presentation. Other Lightning-named games can have different charges and rules.

The worked examples use the supplier’s published original rule model, including its 20% added fee. A public Betfair GB page also lists the original title, but a listing does not establish which table, limits or configuration an individual account can access. Read the selected table’s Help, Paytable and Bet Limits before relying on a number in another guide.

Our baccarat basics explain the underlying Player, Banker and Tie positions. Neither Player nor Banker is a hand you control: you choose a betting outcome and the dealer follows the drawing procedure.

What happens in a Lightning Baccarat round?

  1. Place any permitted bets during the open betting period. Check the base amounts and the additional fee.
  2. After betting closes and bets are accepted, the game reveals its Lightning Cards and their multipliers.
  3. The dealer deals the Player and Banker hands from an eight-deck shoe, following the fixed baccarat drawing rules.
  4. The final hand values decide which main outcome wins. Qualifying matching Lightning Cards then affect the relevant payout.
  5. The game credits the settled return under its paytable and applicable payout cap.

The separate virtual 52-card pack selects the Lightning Cards. It does not replace the physical eight-deck shoe used for the hands. A highlighted card in a losing hand cannot turn a bet on that hand into a winner.

You do not choose to hit, stand or draw another card after seeing the Lightning selection. Natural 8 or 9 rules and the mandatory third-card procedure still govern the deal.

Is the 20% Lightning fee included in the chip amount?

In this model the fee is added to the base wager. A £5 chip bet attracts a £1 fee, so £6 leaves the balance. The £5 remains the amount used as the base for the payout calculation. Multiplying £6 would incorrectly treat the fee as another £1 of the Player bet.

Illustrative base betAdded 20% feeTotal cost of that bet
£120p£1.20
£5£1£6
£10£2£12

The rules apply the fee to each placed bet. If hypothetical permitted wagers are £5 on Player and £1 on Player Pair, their base stakes total £6, fees total £1.20, and the total outlay is £7.20. A side bet has its own settlement; its result does not follow the Player main bet automatically.

The fee is part of this game’s documented pricing, rather than an optional extra you can remove while keeping the same Lightning payout model. A cancelled round has separate refund rules; it should not be confused with a completed round that ends in a tie.

How are two or more Lightning multipliers combined?

The matching Lightning Cards must qualify for the bet that wins. When more than one qualifying card contributes, the multipliers multiply together: 2× and 3× make 6×. They do not make 5×, and you do not apply each one to the fee-inclusive outlay.

For a Player win with a £5 base bet, one qualifying 2× multiplier gives £10 in payout winnings, plus the £5 base stake back. Two qualifying multipliers of 2× and 3× give £30 in payout winnings, plus £5 back. The returned stake is added once.

Lightning identifies specific cards from the virtual pack. Read the card display as an individual rank and suit, rather than treating all cards worth zero in baccarat as interchangeable. A jack, queen, king and ten have the same scoring value but remain different playing cards.

Winning Player examplePayout winningsTotal credited returnNet after £6 cost
No qualifying multiplier£5£10£4 profit
One qualifying 2× card£10£15£9 profit
Qualifying 2× and 3× cards£30£35£29 profit

All three rows assume one £5 Player bet, its £1 fee, no side bet and no binding payout cap. They explain settlement arithmetic, not the likelihood of a particular hand. Banker has a separate commission treatment, so these Player figures should not be copied into a Banker calculation.

Do you get the Lightning fee back on a tie?

No, for a completed tie in the documented original model. Player and Banker main bets push: their base stakes return, but the Lightning fees on those pushed bets do not. A £5 Player bet plus £1 fee therefore returns £5 and loses £1 overall.

Result of one £5 Player betAmount creditedNet against £6 outlay
Player wins without a qualifying Lightning Card£10£4 profit
Banker wins£0£6 loss
The final hands tie£5£1 loss

A Tie bet is a different wager. It wins when the final totals are equal; it does not merely refund a bet placed on Player or Banker. In the supplier’s original model its unmultiplied payout is 5:1, with the Lightning enhancement calculated under the Tie rules.

On a hypothetical £1 winning Tie bet with no qualifying multiplier, £5 payout winnings plus the £1 base stake produce £6 credited. Against the £1.20 total outlay, net profit is £4.80. If that Tie bet loses, none of its £1.20 comes back.

What does the original Lightning Baccarat paytable show?

The supplier publishes the following ranges for the original model. The odds describe payout winnings relative to the base wager, with the returned stake accounted for separately. The fee, Banker commission and any cap still need their own treatment.

BetDocumented payout rangeImportant condition
Player1:1 to 512:1A matching Lightning Card must qualify on the winning hand.
Banker1:1 to 512:1 before its stated commission treatmentThe published paytable specifies a 5% Banker commission.
Tie5:1 to 1,310,720:1The unmultiplied base rate is 5:1.
Player Pair9:1 to 576:1The first two Player cards must form a pair.
Banker Pair9:1 to 576:1The first two Banker cards must form a pair.

For an unmultiplied £5 Banker win, a 5% charge on the £5 winning amount is 25p. The credited amount is £9.75 including the £5 stake, leaving £3.75 after the £6 original cost. For a multiplied Banker result, follow the exact table’s commission wording rather than assuming every printed range is a final cash return.

The supplier’s headline 262,144× Tie multiplier and its 1,310,720:1 Tie payout range refer to different quantities: 8×8×8×8×8×8 is 262,144, and multiplying the 5:1 base rate by that factor gives 1,310,720:1. Neither number means that every Tie wins this amount or that a payout cap disappears.

The one-to-five Lightning selections identify card types in a virtual pack. The eight-deck shoe contains repeated copies of each card, so the number of selected identities is different from the number of matching physical cards dealt. This is why the supplier can describe a six-card Tie multiplier alongside a maximum of five selected Lightning Cards.

The 2021 factsheet states a €500,000 cap or the corresponding currency value, while the detailed rules direct readers to Bet Limits. Check the actual cap shown for the selected game; do not substitute a universal £500,000 limit.

Can a pair side bet win when its main hand loses?

Yes. Player Pair and Banker Pair depend on the first two cards in the relevant hand forming a pair. The main wager instead depends on which completed hand finishes closer to 9. Those tests can produce different results in the same round.

For example, a Player starting pair of fours totals 8, while Banker can hold a natural 9 and win the main comparison. Player Pair still meets its pair condition in the original model. A later third card does not create a new starting pair for this bet.

The supplier’s paytable gives both pair bets a range of 9:1 to 576:1, reflecting their own Lightning enhancement. A general landing page that lists only 9:1 is not enough to decide the exact current side-bet model. The selected game’s actual rules and payout display should agree.

Our baccarat side-bets guide separates a rank pair from perfect-pair and either-pair options. Those other names do not automatically appear at this Lightning table.

Is Lightning Baccarat’s RTP the same for every bet?

No. The original supplier documents give different theoretical returns for the separate betting positions. A single headline RTP cannot describe every wager on the layout.

Bet in the documented original modelPublished theoretical RTP
Player98.76%
Banker98.59%
Tie94.51%
Player Pair88.35%
Banker Pair88.35%

These percentages describe the published mathematical model across extensive play. They do not promise a refund, a particular session result or the arrival of a multiplier after a waiting period. They are also not the chance that an individual bet wins.

The visible 20% fee is not the same measurement as the house edge. Do not deduct 20 percentage points from a headline RTP to invent another return figure, or mistake a 20% fee for a guaranteed 20% loss on every completed round. Our odds-and-payouts guide explains the difference between outcome probability and an amount returned.

How can you check a Lightning Baccarat payout?

  1. Record the exact title, live or First Person version, round identifier and time.
  2. Separate the base stake and fee for every betting spot.
  3. Check the final card values and which of your wagers won, lost or pushed.
  4. Record the qualifying Lightning Cards and multiply their displayed values as the game rules require.
  5. Apply the correct base odds, the Banker commission if relevant, the returned stake and any cap. Compare that credit with the original total cost.

A screenshot showing a highlighted card alone is insufficient to establish an underpayment. The card must qualify on the winning bet, and a fee-retaining push has a different cash result from a standard even-money win. Keep the full round record if the operator’s explanation still does not match the published rule.

For play in Great Britain, check the exact casino domain’s Gambling Commission permissions. A foreign rules document can explain a mathematical model without establishing that the hosting operator is a legal choice for a GB customer.

Related questions

Is Lightning Baccarat the same as regular baccarat?

Its original model uses the same hand scoring and mandatory drawing procedure, but adds random Lightning Cards, a 20% fee and altered payout terms. Those changes affect costs and returns even though the highest total still wins.

Does the 20% Lightning fee come out of my £5 stake?

The documented original model adds £1 to a £5 base bet, making £6 total. The base wager stays £5 for payout arithmetic. Check the displayed total before the betting period ends.

Can I win a Lightning multiplier on a losing Player bet?

A matching card must qualify on a winning wager. A highlighted card does not change which hand wins the main baccarat comparison. A separate pair bet can have a different result from the main hand.

Are two Lightning multipliers added together?

They multiply together under the documented model. 2× and 3× give 6×. For a £5 Player win that means £30 in payout winnings plus the £5 base stake back, before comparing the £35 credit with the £6 cost.

Is a tie a no-loss result in Lightning Baccarat?

A Player or Banker base wager pushes on a tie, but its Lightning fee is retained in the documented model. A £5 base bet plus £1 fee returns £5, giving a £1 overall loss. A bet on Tie is settled separately.

Can a scorecard tell me when a Lightning win is due?

A scorecard records past outcomes. It does not establish the next random Lightning selection or guarantee the next dealt winning hand. Avoid increasing a stake simply because a multiplier has not appeared for several rounds.
